Corporate Finance Principal

About the role

Reporting to the CFO, Mining and Primary Steel, we are looking for a Business Development professional to contribute to the strategy across our Mining and Primary Steel businesses.  As we continue to build a multi-commodity business, this role will be instrumental in the development and enhancement of;

  • New products/ markets/ assets
  • Synergies between markets/ products
  • Entrepreneurial culture/ spirit
     

Responsibilities include:

  • Project management of M&A activities on behalf of the LPMA, including coordination of all stakeholders (internal and external) and information requirements.  This includes identifying opportunities on key commodities for the GFG Group going forward whilst remaining nimble shift in relative market value of commodities
  • Providing commercial acumen and strategic insights to assist in managing the existing portfolio and new acquisitions in line with the corporate strategy
  • Utilising financial modelling guidelines for an initial review and analysis of potential opportunities, including quantifying risks and benefits 
  • Keep abreast of Australian and global commodity industry and provide timely market update to the Management for understanding of market directions and prompt business decision making
  • Performing day-to-day transaction management including liaising with the relevant counterparts and advisers (such as investment banks, accounting and legal) on project deliverables and timetabling as well as other GFG teams that may be involved in specific transactions (accounting, legal, technical and others)
  • Key internal link within business units between CFO, BU heads,  Commercial, Technical and Innovation and Strategic Growth teams to ensure appropriate project management of all activities relevant to business development opportunities
  • Develop and maintain investor presentations to provide overview and update of the business’ operations (including markets and products), valuation and forecast financial models,  performance and business opportunities for ongoing communication and engagement with existing and potential investors.

About your experience

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership skills who is able to build strong relationships and provide advice to key stakeholders within business and ensuring all strategic impacts, challenges and opportunities for the business are covered.  You will be up to date on market insights and be able to make recommendations to ensure that the business can capitalise and respond to any changes.

 

Skills and qualifications required:

  • Degree in economics, corporate finance, commercial or relevant degree
  • MBA degree is highly desirable 
  • Experience in a range of roles in M&A within the resources sector
  • Proven research and analytical skills –forming conclusions from well-structured investigations and critical evaluation
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills and modelling best practices
  • Have an openness to learning by proactively seeking new ideas and improvements 
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
