Permit to Work Coordinator

About the role

Reporting through to the Operations Manager, these newly created roles within Mining and Primary Steel (MPS) will assist in transitioning our safety culture to a risk-based approach, elevating our 24/7 team's capability and capacity to make safer decisions and reduce risk.

As one of multiple Permit to Work Coordinators, you will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for the new integration and sustainability of the MPS Permit to Work system. As a natural collaborator, you will liaise effectively with all disciplines to ensure teams are compliant and working safely. 


With a dedicated responsibility to improve safety outcomes and team culture by championing a centralised approach to the Permit to Work system you will:

 

  • Lead by example and be a SME on the system
  • Report succinctly on the change management process 
  • Understand and have the agility to work between the emerging priorities of different teams
  • Drive the implementation, execution, improvement, and monitoring of the Permit to Work system
  • Have high vigilance to ensure all work is done in a planned and controlled manner, including break-in work
  • Create a work environment where mature, open, and honest communication on safety related matters is valued and mandated
  • Define and support safety leadership behaviors that drive a high-performance culture
  • Complete isolation audits when shutdowns are occurring.
  • Create an alignment between the new system being used and people understanding their role(s) in supporting the new permit to work process

About your experience

Alongside your demonstrated ability to influence with a coaching and mentoring mindset, you will be capable of making changes happen.


As someone who works well under pressure you will have:

 

  • A strong knowledge of the processing plant 
  • Solid communication and conflict resolution skills
  • The capability to notice hazards and their impact on tasks
  • Certified in Front Line Leadership, Safety or equivalent is optimal
  • Ideally certified in high risk work (Working at Heights, Confined Spaces etc)
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Steelworks or heavy industry experience
